چکیده

Information dissemination (flooding) forms an integral part of routing protocols, network management, service discovery and information collection. Given the broadcast nature of ad hoc network communications, information dissemination provides a challenging problem. In this paper we compare the performance of existing distributed ad hoc network flooding algorithms indentifying stengths and weaknesses inherent in each mechanism. Additionally we propose to apply the Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) algorithm in a distributed manner as the basis of an optimised ad hoc network flooding algorithm called Localised Minimum Spanning Tree Flooding (LMSTFlood). LMSTFlood provides significant reduction in duplicate packet reception, average transmission distance and energy consumed. Thus LMSTFlood limits the broadcast storm problem more effectively than existing optimised flooding mechanisms.

Resource aware information dissemination in ad hoc networks

Information dissemination (flooding) forms an integral part of routing protocols, network management, service discovery and information collection (sensing). Given the broadcast nature of ad hoc network communications, information dissemination provides a challenging problem. This paper introduces Utility Based Flooding (UBF). UBF is a distributed optimised flooding mechanism for ad hoc network...

Assessment of DSACC and QPART Algorithms in Ad Hoc Networks

The rapid advancement in wireless over wired has augmented the need for improving theQuality of Service (QoS) over such wireless links. However, the wireless ad hoc networkshave too low bandwidth, and establishing a QoS in these networks is a difficult issue. So,support of quality of service in ad hoc networks is the topical issue among the networkscience researchers. In this research we are go...

Improving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...

Parameterized Neighborhood-based Flooding for Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

Flooding is a simple routing technique that can be used to transmit data from one node to every other node in a network. The focus of this paper is to investigate improvements to flooding techniques used in ad hoc wireless networks. Recent work has focused on using topological information to reduce the number of broadcasts. The number of broadcasts necessary to flood the network was the major p...

Selective Flooding in Ad Hoc Networks

An ad hoc network is a collection of mobile wireless devices that cooperate with each other to route packets amongst themselves. The main difficulty in designing routing algorithms for such a network is the large number of topology changes that the network undergoes due to device movement. Selective flooding is a routing technique that is more resilient to topology changes than traditional algo...
